Not even close! The engine is built in Mexico, but the truck is built in Kentucky. You must have the Superduty confused with the Ram!

This is exactly why I tapped the parking lights. If I'm working in the yard and don't have my keys, I can open the door using the keypad on the door, turn on the parking lights and I have lights in the bed. If I have the keys in my pocket, I can hit the unlock button and have lights for 30 seconds. Of course if I was in the truck, I would just make sure that the parking lights were on before I got out to get something out of the bed.

If I had used an upfitter switch, the only way the lights could work is if the key and the switch are both on. No way for the lights to work without a key. If the truck is running and the tailgate is locked, you would have to shut the truck off, unlock the gate, go put the key back in the ignition, turn on the upfitter, go get what I needed out of the bed, go fetch the key and lock the tailgate again. Of course with the setup I have, I still have to shut the truck off, but I avoid a few steps with the key to use the upfitter. Before anybody assumes that my bed lights are always on as long as the parking lights are on, I do have a switch in the bed that works the bed lights.

I thought it sounded like a good plan and I totally agree with your logic. Perhaps soon, under rail LED's with a bed mounted rocker switch will be standard OE.
