EGT gauge

Hey guys,

I'm looking at getting a gauge for EGTs for my 06. I found a gauge from Glowshift that I think will look good and match the other gauges. The only thing I am unsure of is the temp. They offer a 1500* and a 2200* for the same price. My question is, will the 1500* be a high enough temp for a basically stock motor with a 4 inch turbo back exhaust? I don't have any big plans with performance until I do studs. Its my daily driver and in the summer I pull equipment trailers ranging from 2000 to 13000 pounds if that helps for the temps it'll see.

Thanks for the input,
Andy

At 1500 degrees, you are dangerously high, that gauge should be good. average exhaust temps I see at highway speeds are about 600-800 degrees, some times a bit more. My Edge Insight alarms at 1250. At the highway temps I listed, your gauge would be reading at about mid-scale. a good spot to be.

Thanks!

Yeah I figured if I got that high, I'd have bigger problems than my EGTs haha. I get to looking around on the internet and Im reading guys that hit 1500* plus all the time on the 'claiming to be stock' 6.0, which seems a little far fetched to me.

Also wheres the best spot to mount the probe? Almost every where I look it's saying in the driver side rear part of the manifold. The only problem I see with it being there, is that it's mostly only showing the temp of the last cylinder or the last cylinder will have the biggest influence on the temps. Instead of getting an 'average' temp of both banks.

the 3 cylinders in front of the last one flow in the same direction.....you'll see the combined temp of all 4.

you can install it in the pipe entering the turbo, and get average of all 8. You can weld a bung there, or I "think" they make some sort of cheesy clamp thing to attach it there.

My pyrometer is on the exhaust pipe, driverside, about the same level as the brake pedal. Depending on what you are installing you will need to drill a pilot hole, follow that with a tap of the approprite size to accomodate the threaded plug that holds the pyrometer (element). There is a pass-through in the fire wall that is plugged with a Grommet. this is also on the driverside, above the pedals. Peirce the grommet and feed the wires through it up to the gauge, where ever you are mounting it. You should be all set.

1500 should be good, I've never even hit 1200 on a mainly stock truck (mods in my signature). That's unloaded though, towing I'm sure it would go higher but still not over 1500 I would hope
