Question Gauges..Proper Readings?

Im new to the PSD...Any diesel as a matter of fact.. My truck came with the Gauges on left side with Transmission on top gauge, Pyrometer on middle and boost on Bottom Gauge... Whats proper readings for these as Transmission gauge never moves and temp gauge moves around alittle, Boost moves with power increase. Sorry if these are dumb but Not familiar and want/need to learn as much as possible. Thanks alot 2000 f350 Dually

The pyrometer or engine temp gauge should move around quite a bit. This will vary depending on if the sensor was installed pre or post turbo. It should warm up to about 300 degrees after startup. Cruising down the highway at 70mph I run about 650 degrees if the road is flat with no winds. The tranny temp gauge takes awhile to get moving. My gauge begins at 100 degrees and it can take some time to get the 14 quarts of tranny fluid warmed up, especially in winter. If the outside temp is around 50, my tranny temp will run about 125 degrees (flat terrain, truck not loaded or towing). It can take in excess of 20 miles to see the temp get above 100. If neither of these gauges are working, it's probably an electrical connection that's causing it. The turbo boost gauge is a direct reading mechanical gauge so it wouldn't be affected by a bad electrical connection.
