Shift Lever Cap

I have a 96 Aerostar with the 4.0 engine, electronic all wheel drive, overdrive trans. The small plastic cap on the shift lever that goes over the overdrive button has come off and will not stay when put back on because one of the plastic clips broke off that holds it in place when snapped into the end of the shift lever. Anyone have a part number for this little circular cap or is it part of an assembly?

just apply super glue to the edges! I have collected a bunch of those "toilet seat" caps from salvage yards for the same reason, they fall off. Note that the same cap is used in other Ford trucks of the same year so a trip to a salvage yard is the answer. If you can't find any, let me know.

By the way, the cap goes on in a specific way, it has "tangs" that snap onto notches at the end of the arm.

Dorman (Help) sells them inexpensively. You should use a little of a glue that does not get too hard, like RTV.
