The round cap on the Overdrive button on my gear shift is gone. I bought the truck this way and I know a few other people that have this cap missing. I have tried the local junk yards and they have no 97-03 F150 steering columns. How can I get one of these??? Is it a dealer item?
The same thing happened to mine I just went to the dealership and bought a new one for about $8.50 and it is built better than the origonal one. It dosen't pop off easily.

I didn't know if Ford would sell the item without the whole dang gear shift connected to it. Do you have the part number of the item? Was it something they keep in stock?
All I did was went up to the parts window and told them the year of my truck and what I needed and they went to the back and got one. So as far as I know they keep them in stock I think there are alot of people asking for them. Take your truck with you for reassurance on fit and function but I don't think you will have a problem.
Well, went to Ford dealership and picked up the cap. I only paid $4.85 for the part. Guy said is was made out of better plastic than the original. He said he sells dozens!
