It would be awsome also about how much i should pay for it. and Should i just get it rebuilt and save future hassel? and how much for a rebuild.

Which four speed do you have now? There were two types: New Process 435, and the Warner T-18.
How to tell the dif, without crawling under.
Look at how the shift lever attaches to the shift tower.
The Warner uses a shift lever retaining cap that threads on/off.
The NP 435 uses a notched cap that twists on/off by a 1/4 turn. This cap is retained to the shift tower by two pins.
All this is visible from inside the cab.
FYI: If you have the NP 435 type, the notched retaining cap is a POS.
The two notches tear apart, because when you go to remove the shift lever, you need to press down on the cap while it's being turned.
It's still available from Ford in case you ever need one: B8T-7220-D.
btw: I'm going to be gone for several hours, so somone else will prolly assist you once the trans type is known.
I'm about to go out an check. A friend said i may have a T19 aswell is this possible and if i crall under. is there a badge or casting i could look for.
thanks

I just checked it out. and its the NP435 4 speed type, with the two pins one on eather side of the shifter tower. Now What would a rebuild cost. (i would take it out and put it back in) And would a rebuilt NP435 withstand 38'' tires and 450 horse/torque? and If not what would i have to "soup up " internally?
thanks again

THe best way to tell a 435 from a T18 is that the 435 has an aluminum shift tower.
You really won't know how much its going to cost to rebuild until you get it apart and figure out what has failed and what hard parts you may need.
The standard 435 rebuild kit with bearings, gaskets and seals will run about $125. If you need synchro assys, shafts or gears, most everything is available. Off the top of my head, figure $200-300 for labor. Worst case, you can buy a rebuilt for under $700.
There's not much you can do to modify the 435 for more abuse. They are already built pretty bulletproof. It will take a good amount of torque and horsepower and will stand up to almost any abuse you can give it.
Ok well then 700 ish american would be under $1000 CND and i could come up with that. Before it broke , while in 1st and in reverse it whined really laud at any rpm. Could that have bin the sound of it wearing out. i know there'd be some gear noise with how stout it is to begin with but would be a sign wear? It used to have the tendancy to slam out of first. and now if i hold it hard in 1st. or reverse it just barely moves then bang!
p.s. anyone know if i can drop it out as a unit like unbolt it from the bellhausing and the tcase and just drop it out? Whats the easiest way to do it?

Could be many things, worn shift fork, mainshaft bearing, worn out 1st gearset.
Thanks Khadma and others! really appreciate it. now i can start lookin for a rebuilt and not get hosed ! And its awesome to know that it can take quite a bit of punnishment !
