1966 Ford F100 4WD, SWB, NP-435 4 Speed, Styleside, 352
ND or others, as usual I am in need of another part number and nos if it can be found. I am dressing out the transmission stick shift and noticed the retaining cap for the stick shift is in need of repair or hopefully nos replacement.
Essentially, this retaining cap pushes in and twist locks onto two pins to retain the domed grease cap (with spring underneath) and the stick shift itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

B8T-7220-D .. NP435 Shift Lever Retainer Cap / Obsolete
This spring loaded cap has two notches, is retained to the shift tower with two pins. To remove it, it must be pressed down and held down while turning it to remove it.
People unaware use pliers or channel locks in an attempt to remove it, which tears out one/both of the notches. Not Pleasant!

I'll try to order one from Carpenter, do any one knows the exact CARPENTER part number?? I visited the site but there is no such thing.

militos.
Whe I first read this post I had access to a shifter as described. I pulled it just in case the OP needed one. After contacting the OP it seems as he has his problem under control.
I still have the shifter I'll post pictures in a little bit.

That's not the normal Carpenter phone number but is for their NOS parts group. You can't really get much info through that line as they want people to submit a price request through one of the online parts search engines and they will e-mail you back with a price quote and then you can call the normal 800 number (not the toll number listed above) and order the parts. Use the part number that ND listed above.
You have to play by their NOS rules or they won't help a person. Been there, done that.
Two of my trucks have NP435 so after looking at the service manual I made my own NP435 Shift Lever Retainer Cap removal tool from a piece of 1.5" diameter pipe cut to about 2" in length. Then I just open up a pair of vice grips large enough to hold the pipe, remove the shift **** and boot and slide this down over the lever and use the vice grips as a handle to help press down on the cap. The pipe distributes the downward pressure evenly and grips the cap enough to turn it.
