Ok In some other posts I have been told to change to a EFI style timing set on the 460 and many other people have done it as well. Why is this? I am just wanting to know why so if somebody I knows asks me why I know the reasoning behind it.
The carbureted 460 had retarded valve timing from 1972 through 1987.
With the advent of EFI in 1988, these engines went back to 'straight up' timing.
-And-
They got a roller timing set w/iron gears instead of the hyvo type chain w/ a plastic coated aluminum cam gear that quickly wears out.
I think it is a good choice for someone who wants the extra torque, but doesn't need the additional cost & complexity of a fully adjustable aftermarket timing set.
