The FICM is 2 years old and it still reads 48 volts. Just from the research I have done I don't think it is bad. My voltage gauge still reads about 13.4-13.7 with everything turned off and the truck at idle. It does drop when I turn on all the lights and the heater blower. But it comes back up to normal while I'm driving so I think the alternator is good. I'm charging the batteries right now just so I know they have a good charge. I leave it sitting for 2 or 3 days every weekend and I have never had to jump it off. That just didn't sound right to when I read the comments on the receipt.
Its been 8 days since I picked it up. I made a run to OKC and brought my 5th wheel back. I was getting 18.8mpg with a tail wind on the way down. The bad part is I got 9.4mpg on the way back going into that same wind. I drove it all week and the constant vibration still seems to be there but I can't find anything wrong. The 4x4 is working right. I don't have any codes and my mileage has improved. It starts a little faster even when cold. The only thing I think may be a possibility is the alternator. It feels like it is vibrating a little when I touch my multimeter to the lug that connects the main wire. As far a charging goes, yes it is a little low when it is first started. But I did a search and learned that this is by design until the glow plug circuit has time to turn off. After a short time it is reading about 13.4-13.7 at idle. At speed it sometimes goes up to 14.0 but usually stays around 13.6-13.8. I cleaned all the battery terminals and cables and tested the batteries. They both showed about 12.6 volts before the cleaning. I'll press on and hope for the best.
Well, another 2 trips to the dealer revealed the plug that connects the FICM wiring harness to the FICM had a broken ear and the shop manager believed this to be the problem all along. They zip-tied it in place and that lasted a while but 2 weeks ago it dropped cyl 2 again. This time they replaced the entire FICM wiring harness at their expense and its been good since then. So, I think I went through 6 months of grief and a lot of cash to find out that all it needed was a $540 wiring harness. Oh well.
