Thanks for the suggestions. Its at the dealer and they paid for the rental. The service writer said Ford did get some bad injectors. The battery voltage isn't low now. That 12.2v was the first time it failed. I did have a bad battery and replaced it so I'm getting around 13.7v. The FICM voltage is steady at 48.0 so I don't think it failed again. Plus when it failed it acted completely different and it wasn't drivable. I agree that logic says there is a wire, or wires, that are chafed and shorting somewhere. As always I wil update the thread when I find out something so maybe it will help someone else out down the road. Thanks again.
The dealer just called. The number 2 injector is bad so they are replacing it. The number 6, one that they replaced at the same time as the first number 2, is also going bad so they are replacing it also. They said the injectors are bad from Ford so no charge. The bad news is that the front left hub has been making some crazy noise since I used the 4x4 in the snow last month. I told them to check it out, and it needs to be replaced. I can't wait to see the total on that.

I'll see if I can get the info on the injectors. Also, I'll see if they did a fuel pressure check before they changed the injectors and if so what the pressure was.
I had to pick it up Saturday morning so the service writer I was dealing with wasn't there. I didn't get to ask any questions. they replaced cyl 2 injector and cyl 6 injector. Drove it home, 10 miles and parked it. It ran perfect. Drove it this morning to school and back it ran perfect. Started it this afternoon and it missed like nobody's business. Drove it to school and back and it missed bad all the way. Read the codes: P0264 Cyl 2 inj circuit low, P0266 cyl 2 contribution/balance, and a new one P2291 control pressure too low-engine cranking. My gauge shows good ICP or HPOP pressure 580.3 at hot idle and IPR 22.4% at hot idle. Battery voltage 13.8v and FICM main power 48.5. I guess its back to the dealer in the morning.

You really need to have them test the fuel pressure and I would also want them perform a bubble test, and when they install the new injector I would insist that they install a new injector holddown clamp and bolt. I missed the P0264 code, perhaps they have a donor FICM they could try or start chasing wire harness and looking for the short.
The receipt says the bubble test was performed and I'll ask for the fuel pressure today. I guess it is possible that 3 bad injectors ended up in my truck.
The frustration continues. I started it this morning and because it was 7 degrees and I didn't have it plugged in it smoked some but it warmed up for 5 minutes and absolutely no miss. I drove the kids to school and it ran perfect. All the gauges looked good it got up to 177ECT. I got home, shut if off and restarted and everything is good. I called and talked to the dealer and my service writer confirmed that they did the fuel pressure check every time they changed the injectors. I cancelled my appointment this morning and told him I will drive it and bring it straight in if its missing again. We discussed swapping the cyl2 injector with another cyl if it happens again instead of replacing it with a new one and see if it shows a code for that cylinder when it misses again. I also suggested that if I have to bring it in again that they get a new injector from a different source just in case they have a warehouse full of bad injectors. I'll keep driving it and update. Thanks for all the help to this point.
Well its been a little over a week and the miss hasn't been back in a few days. However, it is running like crap. There is a loud moan from the motor consistent with acceleration. There is a steady vibration that is there at idle and during driving that I feel in the steering wheel that has never been there and its pushing black smoke if I get on it hard or even semi-hard. Plus, now the 4X4 doesn't work since they replaced the front hub. The dash light comes on but the front tires do not engage. we have snow so I know its not working. It is a vacuum problem because when I move the switch the heater changes from heat to defrost and back. I guess they messed that up too. Anyway, its scheduled first thing Monday morning.
I had a similar problem with mine,i am lucky got a hold on CL of a guy that works in a dealer and that s all what he does diesel fords replace 2 injectors and that was it . he knows them very well
I just picked it up from the dealer. First, they said an o-ring got pinched installing the hub so they fixed that. Then they called the next day and said they were getting code p0272, but the truck was running ok. They called again yesterday and said they started it first thing and it was missing bad. It was showing cyl 4 and 7 injectors bad this time. So, after a lot of thought I told them to replace the 5 remaining injectors while they had it apart. Fuel pressure 57psi. I had them research my oil leak and they found the turbo outlet CAC hose to be leaking. They replaced it. They also noted bad batteries and said they had to jump start it. That didn't make sense. I stopped at Auto Zone and had the batteries test. The older one tested 100% charged and good. The new one tested good but only 68% charged. So I will monitor that situation.
