I need to know if a engine wiring harness off a 88 and 87 f150 300 are the same. The 87 had a 4spd overdrive and the 88 had a t18 4spd. Was there any changes between the yr that would make me have to switch them.
I doubt its different that said I'm not sure where the trans harness originates on the 87-89 models.
If it drops down off the back of the engine (doubt it) then yea they'd surely be different, if trans harness originates from top of inner fender, both engine and trans harness do so, then they are likely the same.
Small chance there are small differences but nothing hard to over come, wires for this or that might be different length, something moved slightly to a new position for example.
Should be easy enough to spot any differences to determine if need to take the time to swap them out, any differences that would make it necessary and of course knowing which one is which, the direction of the swap auto to manual or manual to auto.
The EFI engine harness will be the same for 87 and 88 years, possabliy 89 too. In 90 there are some changes of the connectors of the harness.
What's wrong with the origonal harness? Or just swapping a tranny only? If just a tranny swap, then you only need to deal with the neutral safety connector. They may be the same connector and plug and run, or you may have to splice the wires going to the other tranny.
Im swapping the engine from a 88 f150 into my. 87. I didnt wanna change the harness if they arnt the same but if they are i will leave it the 88 harness
Yea mis read that, seen overdrive in your OP and right off assumed auto.
I did figure you where asking due to a motor swap, should be the same thing.
Check the main harness to engine harness connectors make sure they are the same both years and basic overview of harness on the motor, wire colors and connectors sensors and actuators all match etc. Seriously doubt you'll find much if anything different, as stated 87 tru 89 appear to be in the same group far as harness goes.
