hello all, i am new to this site looking for some dio help with my truck
about the truck; 1988 ford f 250 302 (5.0) for the most part stock has cold air intake msd coil ngk plugs and accel wires with 224,xxx miles on it.
the problems i am having are and just started is while driving the truck it chuckles like its got a miss fire or a fuel issue and it does it in park as well but when you put it into neutral it runs just fine and u can rev it up to 4k and its smooth.
it has a single tank with 2 pumps high flow and low flow and both pumps where replaced back in 2010 along with the timing chain/cover, both fuel and ignition relays
im a mechanic and know how to work on vehicles but this truck of mine has got me at a loss here on whats wrong with it. any help would be great thank you
im having the same problems with my 88 with a 460.. i posted a thread last week and havent gotten any responses so hopefully you do.. I replaced the vaccume control valve so i do know its nopt that. hopefully someone answers us
me i got a single tank so i have no selector switch but i am now thinking it my be my regulator witch is $18 my cost ( resale ) so i think i might start there both my pumps that i know of are working ( low flow and high flow ), i had to replace both them 2 yrs ago but never did the regulator
First thing to come to mind was an EGR malfunction.
it chuckles like its got a miss fire
If the truck is laughing maybe it's just happy....
I'm assuming it runs rough.
Also, how's the ignition - cap/rotor, plugs, wires, etc?
Regulators sometimes rupture and send fuel back through the vacuum line. Pull the line and see if it's wet with gas. Then, check the fuel pressure. 30's at idle with the vacuum line on, mid 40's with it off. If the pressure checks out and it's not ruptured it's not likely your problem.
Have you checked for codes since this problem started? What is the lingering code by number and when it is displayed? Have you checked the fuel pressure?
i get code 11 pass no fault and memory code for the egr but its had that code for the 3 yrs i owned it and i havnt checked the fuel pressure yet that is like the only thing i can think is something with the fuel system
Did you resolve this problem? I have an 88 with a 351 and it sputters at take terribly some days and other days runs pretty good. I just bought it last week.
