Help with P0500 Speed Sensor Issue
We have a 2005 6.0 and while traveling to Florida a few weeks ago
had an issue where the cruise, speedometer, odometer quit working all at the same time.
Actually, I looked at the speedometer and it quit working, then about 1/2 hour later it started working again and then finally quit all together shortly after.
We took the truck to the Ford dealer for another issue and they pulled the
P0500 code up.
What I have read is the P0500 code diagnostics is:
- Faulty Speed Sensor
-Vehicle Speed Sensor harness or connectors open or shorted
-Vehicle speed sensor circuit poor electrical connection
-Faulty engine control module
So, we purchased a new Speed Sensor from Auto Zone yesterday, just the sensor and not the harness, replaced it and still nothing is working. Is there something that I needed to reset?
Is it possible that we purchased a new faulty sensor? Is there anything anyone can suggest we look at before taking it back to the Ford dealer and paying the long dollar for the repair?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Mary
Another option to the dealer is a good independent shop. A shop that has a Ford Master Tech would have no problem fixing this. There are a lot of them out there. They charge A LOT less than the dealer.
