Yes, I understand that but that doesn't necessarily mean the battery is good, what you could do is swap batteries with one of the working ones to make sure.

I know this is an old thread, but I can't find any other information.

I am having the same issue. I can get into the programming mode, but when I push any of the buttons on the remote to be programmed, all I get is a honk of the horn and not a cycling of the locks. I get the lock cycling when I turn the key off, but the remote is not programmed.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tony

Because you're following the wrong programming instructions.

New keys MUST be put in the ignition switch in order to be programmed with the PATS system. Here's how to do it:

- Have two programmed keys in hand, along with your new unprogrammed key.
- Close all doors, foot OFF the brake.
- Insert the first programmed key in the ignition and turn to the RUN position (without starting the vehicle).
- Maintain the key in the RUN position for a count 3 Mississippi's, turn key to the OFF position and remove.
- Within 10 seconds, insert the 2nd programmed key and turn to the RUN position.
- Again after 3 seconds, turn key to the OFF position and remove.
- Within 10 seconds, insert the NEW UNPROGRAMMED key and turn to the RUN position, maintaining in the RUN position for at least 3 seconds.
- Remove the key, it is now programmed.

Follow the same procedures to program a 4th key if desired.

If the new key is an IKT (integrated key with door locks and/or remote start fob), it will program the fob also. It will not program a fob not associated with a key in the ignition.

My problem is I only have one working key. The company I bought the new key from sent me the fob programming instructions that I tried. I wanted to make sure the fob would program before I had the key cut and the chip programmed, but apparently that is not possible. When I bought the truck the dealer only had one key. I will go to the locksmith this morning and let them sort it out.

Thanks,

~Tony

when u have only one key, the dealer is/was the only way to get the second key enabled.
edit: looks like locksmith has more capability than I know about!

Have just a standard key cut for your ignition. Go through the programming mode of inserting the first key, then the second key, then on the third one, insert the standard key but hold the miss cut key right next to the standard key and turn the ignition. This will program the miss cut key. By standard key I am talking about a cheap from wal-mart key with no chip. The smart keys have an rfid chip that just has to be within an inch of the reader to work.

I would have tried that, but I took it to the locksmith this morning and they programmed it.

Thanks,

You still need two working keys besides this standard key with the miss cut key. Tony only had ONE key to begin with as I understood his problem.
