Looks good Glenn. It also looks like a lot of work. I'm happy my wife still likes to hear the engine roar.

Ya Glenn, I don't know if you looked at Nates exhaust sound thread when it was around again, but I'm going with a 4 inch dp and 5 inch exhaust with a muffler. I need to quiet mine down some too. Not as much as you are, but some. It was almost obnoxiously loud with the windows down towing that last time. Plus me and dad are both kind of not so good at hearing anymore so the conversations in the truck get quite loud, even with the windows up! I'm cutting and rebuilding the floor/firewall, whatever is necessary, and making it fit. I do have a little more room than you being a 4wd anyway. Not near enough for a 4 inch dp, but more room as is. Plus, my hack job on making room for the 3 inch dp has always bothered me. I need to cut all that out and make it look better. Although nobody can see it, I know it.

Thanks for the tip Bill.

Thanks Phil, I used to take my wife all around on a loud motorcycle and she didn't mine then. How things change, LOL.

I looked at Nate's thread originally but not the resurrected one. I find it hard to believe a 4" DP and 5" exhaust is more quiet. I don't like my hack job on my DP either. I'm trying to pull it out of there and no luck so far because I used muffer clamps instead of band clamps. I might have to cut it out of there. Maybe I'll have a 3 1/2" made, IDK.

Today I finished up the back under the back seat and the back wall.

Then I worked on the drivers side firewall. What a PITA, had to cut a bunch of small pieces. Some of the black you see is the same as the silver stuff as far as sound proofing with an added insulation valve. I plan on putting it where I can on the firewall and do a couple rows on the roof over what I've already done. Bring some down onto the floor from the firewall also. Todd, my nephew, said the duck work can come out but involves disconnecting the ac etc. etc. I guess I'll insulate over the duck work.

Wow, you're doing a lot Glenn. Is the floor all you had done before? Your wife should be real happy when you get done!

I don't know if the bigger exhaust will be much quieter than a 4 inch system, but with a muffler on and exiting in the stock location instead of a straight pipe out in front of the rear tire it will be a heck of a lot quieter than it is now. I talked myself into a 5 inch system to do all I can to help keep egt's down. I don't know if it will help much, but it's what I decided on. I'm adapting to 5 inch as soon as I can off of the turbo.

What do you mean 'off the turbo'? Take it off or sell it?

Edit: the floor is all I did before.

No, I mean as soon as I have room off of the turbo I'm adapting the dp to 5 inch, and mating up to a 5 inch catback system. I have to buy a 4 inch superduty dp to cut up and use up top.

I think your truck will be night and day difference on interior sound with all the work you are doing Glenn. These things are noisy, but you're doing about all you can to keep the sound outside.

I did some looking around for replacement OEM like cab bushings. A buddy was making noise about replacing his. I couldn't find any. Not really sure one way or another if something is available in rubber. But if I were to replace them I'd go poly. I need to spray the hardware around those on mine again with Fluid Film!

Oh, I got ya. LOL That sounds like a good project. I read this one article of a guy who was doing what I'm doing and he said that the weak part is the windows but you can't do anything about that, LOL.

I didn't make it all the way thru Brad, that's one heck of a project.

Today I finished up the firewall. What a PITA trying to get sound proofing behind and around the duck work or what ever its called. I pulled down the factory stuff and got behind it the best I could and put what I could behind the duck work. Its very hard to see from the picture because I used what they call Quadmat, it has the same sound proofing as the silver stuff with added insulation. I wanted that on the firewall as much as possible. I also brought it down onto the floor over what I already had on the floor for a 'double' whammy! I left the holes open for the body mounts so I can get to them later. I left pieces to cover of the holes for later.

Last year I put sound proofing under the hood, a layer of dynamat and a foam hoodliner sold by dynamat. I added nine one foot by one foot sections to that for a thriple layer of sound proofing, LOL That leaves one more item to do times four, the doors. I hate pulling off door panels, not one of my favorite things to do but then I'll be done!!

Wow! Now when you're on the road, your wife will say "It's too quiet in here! Turn on the radio or something!" LOL! Seriously though, you've worked your butt off on that! I hope it does the trick for you. Looks great!
