Steering column squeak?

So I've begun to notice an annoying intermittent squeak/screech in my steering column while driving, obviously aggravated by the rough roads we've got down here. I can silence it tho, if I push in/up real hard on the steering wheel, so I'm pretty confident there's some bushing or bearing in the steering column that needs some lube or maybe just outright replacement.

Anyone else address this before?

If it is anything like the older superduties (I assume they are), there are 2 plastic bushings that the steering column rides in. One near the top and one lower down below mid point.
You can replace them (there is a thread on here somewhere) or get in there to spray something like PB blaster to make them quieter.

it may be the bushings but I will tell you I had that in my 06 and it was the steering gear.

Found this out after a complete steering column replacement.

Agree, it could be lots of different things. The fact that he can adjust it with the weight on the steering wheel suggests to me its the bushing.

Thanks Senix, but I'm leaning towards BF on this one, it's got to be something within the internals of the column, the noise is right in my face, not traveling up the column.

BF- I found this thread, maybe it's the one you were referring to, but I don't see any "collars" or bushings or bearings or anything, in the pics:

They may be bearings actually -here was the best parts diagram I can find:

Keep me in the loop as well, BlackBeest. If you decide to bring your truck in to the dealership, send me a heads up PM and I'll see if there's anything I can do to help.

Did you ever find the source of your squeak? I have a 2013 that just started doing this intermittently and same as you if I push up or against the steering wheel it will get silent.

Thanks,

Waylan

If you didn't notice, that thread is over 5 years old.

Yes I did realize that - was hoping it got figured out so I can find my squeak.
