IAT2 sensor.

Ok I have been looking at cleaning the IAT2 sensor now but I just ant seem to find a way to get to it good enough so I do not break it. Is there a trick or something I need to do, or is it that much of a pain.

It's that much of a pain since it's right under air intake and harness. Is it giving you a bad reading? You can compare it to the rest of the temp sensors after a cold soak to see if it's right

Yea I think so it's reading at 160 - higher at times while driving can't remember exactly but that seems high, will cleaning it help get it to where it needs to be

Is the motor COLD for say 12 hours?

This morning it was I did not look at it then. While driving though it was giving me those temps.

It will vary widely while driving depending on boost. Compressed air gets hot thus the need for the intercooler.

Not to hijack to bad, but what kind of number spread would kinda be the norm? If incoming air was 50* F what would be surprising temps at the IAT2, or what numbers might cause concern?

It's all dependent on how hard your working the engine.
When you compress air you get heat. The intercooler is
there to dissipate as much as it can. The the EGR system
puts it right back in if this running.

I cleaned my IA2 because when i took it out it was gummed up
with soot. In watching the fluctuations they seem a little bit faster
now that it's clean. A gummed up sensor will be slower do to the
insulating factor of the soot that is covering the sensor bulb.

Cleaned the sensor today and it was badly covered in soot. It took a bit of playing around it but I got it. Did not notice that much of a difference. I am going to tackle the turbo this weekend. Hopefully I can get it out clean it and reinstall with not issues. Will I need to buy any new parts when I do this.

I would get the turbo install kit.
It has new bolts,O-rings and a gasket.
If you already have the updated supply
and drain that should be ll you need.

So I checked the reading this morning and I'm getting 68 I cleaned the sensor yesterday. Is this a good reading? It was around 58 degrees this morning

You need to check several temp sensors to make sure they're all really close. fWt, EOT, TFT, IAT1, IAT2. They won't be exactly on with each other but they should be reasonably close. It will give you an idea if you MIGHT have a sensor that's seriously out of calibration and educate you about your truck at the same time.
