2011 F-250 Lariat with 38,000 miles. What is the cause or source of humming or buzzing noise from the under the hood that starts once I turn the truck off and close the door? Lasts from 3-4 minutes and only started noticing it in the last two thousand miles or so.
Its the vacuum releasing for the wastegate solenoid.
You can replace the solenoid and it will fix the noise, Ford issued a service bulletin saying it doesn't affect operation however (i.e. they won't cover it under warranty)
Waste gate is my vote. Mine actually hasn't done this in awhile.
It's really strange/interesting why it will occur for awhile, then stop for a few months, then return, etc..
Mine has a whine/roar that also comes from the area of the DEF tank after it is shut off. I have only had it for 3 weeks but was driving me nuts trying to figure out what it is, then I realized my Freightliner at work does the exact same thing and the same noise. It's coming from the DEF tank.
Also, I have to get it back to the dealer for the whistle coming from the engine while towing. I've driven several 6.7s and none have done this.
i appreciate the feedback. Tried letting it idle for 5 minutes or so but noise started within 60 seconds of turning it off and shutting the door. Noise seems to be coming from the area on the drivers side of the engine in the vicinity of the turbo or fuel filter. Doesn't seem to be in the area of the DEF tank. Just started in the last 2,000 to 2,500 miles but occurs everytime you shut it down and close the door.

Hi WVSTROKE,
You sound like a pretty hands-on type of person, but you can always bring this up to your dealership the next time you're in for a service appointment. Give me a heads up if you decide to go that route and I'll do what I can to assist as well.
