I have an 04 F250 6.0 that is for the most part stock with 200,000 miles and runs great. I'm considering doing the blue spring mod but worry if there are any negative effects they can have on a truck. I kind of live by "If it aint broke don't fix it" however if this is a good mod and people have good luck with injectors lasting longer and the truck running better with more fuel then I want to do it. This is an OEM and not aftermarket upgrade so should there not be any worries?
As Rusty says, it's a factory update, not a modification. The standard spring in the pressure regulator is set up for the E-series van motor and the International motors, both of which are calibrated to significantly less power than the 6.0 in the F series. The pressure just falls too low, and the injectors die. I consider the updated spring a mandatory change, not optional at all.
The only downside, as Rusty pointed out, is if you do it wrong. It is very easy to put the spring in, but since you have an '04 IIRC, there was a change around then as to the poppet valve and a seal. Take a close look at how your parts come out of the pressure regulator. I'd have to go look, but this may be covered in the tech topic on installing the Blue Spring.
Best place I found to buy what you need, kit-wise, is from Riffraff -- nice folk (you don't need the kit with the cover unless yours is cracked.) Here's a link:
Apparently, if you regulator housing uses this piece (the one it the picture does not) there is an o-ring that goes on it before putting it in the housing. If you leave the o-ring off, the truck will run but it can make a noticeable buzzing sound in the regulator.
