the spring will hold it in place... and the copper will wear out quicker leading to the mod not lasting long... but other then that it will not cause any thing bad to go wrong...
This is how i did the FPR shim,
1) remove bolt with a 19mm wrench
2) using small needle nosed pliers, carefully pull the spring out
3) put a small dab of grease on the end of the spring
4) place the BB in the grease carefully so it holds in place
5) Carefully, place the spring BB first back into the regulator, may want to have a buddy watch from the passenger side fender to make sure that it goes in ok and the BB doesn't fall off. It's hard to see while your putting the spring back in.
6) put the bolt back on the end and tighten, but don't go crazy, just snug it up.
I'm sure someone will give me a hard time for using grease, or not taking the whole thing apart, but this way took literally 2 min to do... so worked for me
