I'm having some injector issues, I'm actually pretty sure that it's just o-rings but what the hey, the labor has to be done regardless so I might as well upgrade them while we're at it.
So I've got 4" MBRP catback exhaust, Adrenaline HPOP, PHP chip, and the big NAPA air filter intake.
Driving is about a 50/50 mix of short trips with a load (1500 - 2000 pounds in the bed) and highway driving with very little weight. I tow some but not super often and never anything heavier than about 16,000 pounds.
Which injectors would be my best choice? I don't want to spend too much on them, I'd prefer to keep the parts to $1,000 but would spend up to $2,000 if that's what it's going to take.
If you have time to put your truck down for a week or more then sending your injectors to Rosewood for a rebuild would be a decent choice. New nozzles and standard rebuild will run around $950 or so. That is the path I have taken a few times and it has worked out great for me so far. Plus you won't need to have your calibrations adjusted if you stick with stock spec injectors.
Based on your post, and because you said nothing about more power/speed/performance etc, I really think you'd be very happy with stock AC codes or AC's with a bit bigger nozzles.
I do want more power if I can get it, that's always good.
Oh, you'll get more power (subjective opinion) with any single shot injector you go with. My statement above just meant I wasn't going to suggest a Stage 2 hybrid injector.
Will this - Riffraff Diesel: Stage 2 Single Shot Injectors - support a turbo upgrade in the future? I'll probably do one at some point and would prefer to have injectors that will be able to make full use of the extra air.
I believe Rich, Tugy, has the 165/100. A lot of guys here are happy with the 165 stock nozzles for towing there 5th wheels. Plus you can get them any where if needed. I like the 200/100 nozzles. I haven't got them yet, but have heard good things about them. You'll need your tuner upgraded, and PHP had a thread on the 160 injectors and people really liked it. Yes they will handle a up graded turbo just fine. In fact you should do so or at least the wheel in the one you have.
I've actually got a Wicked Wheel in the center console that I've been meaning to install for 2 years.
I've got the PHP self-burning kit so I can change my tunes at will so I should only need to pay for the new tunes and have them linked to my account when I do the injectors.
See if you can buy the injectors from them. Then you up graded tunes usually are free!
I'd go with one of the new 2 gen wheels and sell that one. Just my 2 cents.
This is a local guy that rebuilds 7.3 injectors and i was thinking of going with this package he offers how do you think they would perform kuz im about due for new sticks stage 1.5 singles ($1350)disassemble, clean, new 170cc pistons, new plunger and barrels, new nozzle springs new 30% nozzles, new internal and external O-rings, poppets shimmed......i have a (ww) intake exhaus . And will get the tunes to saport them and a turbo upgrade in the future
Aaand we're off to the races. While it's nice to fantasize about more power I saw a number in the first post: $1000. That will get a nice set of remanufactured stock injectors all day long. Full Force Diesel has these on a shelf, waiting for an order... and Riffraff Diesel carries these as well. If you order them before you pull the injectors, you need to put down a big deposit for the cores.
IF you decide to go with AC injectors, that involves tuning. You can get a PCM flash to save money, but you still blow past the $1000 minimum and crowd the $2000 maximum... plus you've opened a can of worms. While a PCM flash isn't exactly chipping, it's still in the family... and I have a write-up on chipping. bcg, please click the link in my signature - you will find it behind "Custom Tunes".
As for my experience, I'm a perfectionist to a fault. I got the remans, but my goal was to go very long on these and they just didn't meet my exacting standards. I pulled them and replaced them with new. I can't stress enough the night and day difference between remans and new... and there are not a lot of people who have driven a fresh set back-to-back. If you don't mind maxing the budget without being put on the "penny/pound" rollercoaster, new ADs are a viable option.
Don't be afraid of a set of stage three's. A billet wheel and some tuning and you'll never know that the truck is hopped up until to press the go pedal.
I went with 238/100's and a billet wheel and everything is just fine. Reliable daily driver, tows anything from a small boat to a 5th wheel and goosenecks with equipment on it. EGT's stay well below the I'm concerned mark.
With the mods you have you will be at the upper end of the price range but within it.
Alot of people say what they have including me, but I just want to put out there if you engine is in good shape it doesn't matter what you put in it. I just wanted to chime in and say don't be afraid of a set of Stage III's I would do it again in a heartbeat!
