Guys, I've been down the re-man injector road before. My truck currently runs on about 6 when started and maybe all 8 after it fully warms up. Until then, will barely go (downhill) down my street. After warm, it still has a miss and has a horrible knock (that started with the last re-man install and I still believe to be an injector knocking...I hope).
So...I want to fix the problem and just replace all 8 with something new. Dan (Kwikordead on here) definitely says go with new Alliants, and I'm good with that. But, I've also been researching Swamps and their various options for even adding a little more power. First question, does Swamps alter 'new' injectors or are these modified re-mans (taken from whatever cores). I've heard that most cores these days just aren't reliably re-buildable.
Second question...if I didn't want to do it myself, how much should it cost for someone (qualified) to replace all 8 and would Swamps do that for me?
Allen
I had the same problems as your having and I went with the Swamps SS injectors. A friend of mine that owns a diesel shop that has put in a lot of injectors did recomend these to me. So I put a set in and really like them I am hitting on all 8 now. They do give you around 50 more HP but you will need to get a new tune + Have you chip retuned if you have one. Just thought I would let you no my side on the Swamps i think you would really like them.
Thanks Eddie....I had read some of your posts. I have left a PM for you when you get a chance. I want to understand more and hopefully relieve my anxiety about my particular issue so I can feel better about throwing more money into this thing. Weird thing is, I would spend $5,000 easy if I knew it would (finally) run right and last a while longer but I don't want to spend another $1,500 just to still have the same problem I currently have. I might go postal.
Damn Allen. I am sorry that truck of yours is still a dog. I would recommend calling Dave at Swamps. Just log onto their site and call the number. He will talk to you as long as needed, trust me. I believe they advertise an oil change, $1,800, injectors included, but don't know what is on the site now.
I would offer to put them in for you, but I am not much closer than they are. Good luck buddy. Let me know if I can help. You do deserve a decent running truck after all you have been through.
Thanks Mike...I almost traded the truck and another (Honda) for a new, highly dscounted F-150 last week. At the last minute, decided that I should be able to fix this thing for less...and end up with alot more truck than a F-150 (along with the Honda).
Ryan Casserly is who built my injectors....i been told Ryan is one of the best and he is in Murfreesboro, TN not sure if thats near you or not..i got used injectors from a guy that Ryan built almost a year ago and he re tested before i got them..now i have a skip and 2 cold cylinder only at idle..that could have happend at any point he had them till i put them in..he is building and sending me a couple injectors to try and fix it and keep my truck going..now thats class act..i bought used injectors from one guy..i have a problem and Ryan is building and sending me 2 new injectors just so i dont loose my DD and get my truck running right...i would take my truck to him any day..if he helps me like that only by word of emails..then im sure he is a great guy to deal with in person..

is this better ?? lol it isnt really trouble..just anoying some times...i just stomp on it.. the grin comes on my face and the brain said what skip?? lol
Thanks for that info Ron. It is weird that some of the more well known injector folks on this forum are, Beans, Swamps and now Ryan Casserly .....all within a few miles of each other in middle Tennessee.
I did read where Beans Diesel Performance has 2 options for injectors....modified re-mans or modified new ones. I am waiting for Swamps to verify if they offer new as an option. Either way, I'm thinking about getting (whatever they are called) the ones that are slightly better than stock, with a tune, maybe get better mileage as well, and supposedly take some load off of a old/weak HPOP or at least don't require a 100% HPOP.
sounds like SS stage 1 is what you want..use less oil and give you about 50 to 60 extra HP over what you got now...there all good guy's..i think Ryan does some of beans injectors..he used to build them for swamps..but something happend there and they split up...now Ryan has full force..

I assume you got you swamps/idle issues resolved?
Oh yeah, it will never idle like a stocker now, but it is far less of a lopey dragster thing than it was. It is cool now, noticeable, but not annoying.
If you get a decent upgrade and get that truck running right, you will be amazed. Ask anyone who has ridden in my truck. There are a few on here. The injectors and turbo netted me close to 100HP with conservative tuning for my PMRs. That was above my previous tuned somewhat modified run #s.

I felt the same way Ron. But it got old quick. Hope you get it sorted out.
