Thanks Stewart! Yes, I'll be working in Santa Clara now instead of Fremont and the traffic is MUCH worse heading up that way. The new job $ plus the gas savings will pay for the car, and the gravy is driving in the carpool lane!

That's a nice looking car, Andy. How does that plug-in/hybrid thing work? Does it run on electric until depleted batteries, then convert to a hybrid? How much did it set you back? What is highway mileage?

I am curious of gas mileage though. My commuter gets 13.5 mpg!? Ouch...

That's how it works. You can choose "EV Later" mode and save the electricity for when you want to use it as well. It was just under 40 plus tax, but you get a 1500 state refund and a 3750 federal tax credit if your liability is more than 4007 apparently. Since I pay a TON of federal taxes it's nice to actually get my first tax break ever. EVER!

I haven't driven it 100 miles yet, and I plugged it in over night which was probably $2 in electricity then a little more plugging in today. Right now I'm at just over 70 MPG !!!

No way! It's a lot of fun playing around with the Electric Vehicle mode and also I felt just a hint of torque steer when I romped on it today and both the gas and electric engines were screamin'!

One interesting aspect is getting used to the regenerative braking. When you see a light or stop sign ahead you get on the brakes very very softly and the battery recharges a little or a lot depending on the situation.

I bought pretty much the top of the line model since I'll be spending quite a bit of time in it and plan on driving it for a long time.

Evening gentlemen, our boy was born this morning @ 3:09 am. Lane Gregory Maltman. He was early due to momma having severe preeclampsia... 7 weeks early to be exact. But they are both doing great! He will be in NICU for a bit and momma should be home by end of week. Sleeping at hospital is getting old!
