i have a 2001 f350 6spd, did some work earlier this year, injector cups, o-rings, timing cover.
i was just curious what would be considered "normal" for this truck with 245,000 and no fuel mods/upgrades, and the "revised" cps (rougher idle but longer life)
i know due to the "dead head" issue, #3 and #8 read high, but about high high is normal, and any other cylinders read more than 0?
IMO, with the exception of the dead head issue some will say between 0 and 3 is ok. Personally on mine its between 0 and 2 on all 8, but I don't have the dead head problem
I was anywhere from 0 to 3 with a good CPS, then my new sticks are all less than 1. I have one injector with a 3 sometimes, and I can feel the difference. I once had a bad stick that went up to about 7, and that ran like crap.
thanks, i am going to get the latest reading tonight on my way home (if i remember to bring my scanner). i am looking at doing riffraff's fuel and oil crossovers soon and compare before/after. i just seam to have a rough idle compared to other trucks in the area, but most of the 7.3's are gone, and the ones left are all auto with higher idles, so it is hard to compare based on sound alone.
ok, just took lunch, and after it warmed up my reading are
#1 0.2 to 0.4
#3 consistant 2.6
#5 0.6 to 0.8
#8 2.9 to 3.4
from the sounds of it these #s are about average right? should i be a little concerned about #s 3 & 5? when i did the cups all cylinders had compression of around 450psi except for the front 2 on pass side where 400-425.
Diesels don't idle glass-smooth unless you go through the process of having the injectors pressure/flow tested for a smooth idle. I had that done when I replaced my injectors, so I expect a bit more on Stinky, the wondertruck.
thanks, i know these things are always a bit rough, but with everyone around driving newer trucks that SOUND smooth, and with the lower compression on #1 and 3 i was curious. i have atleast one broken/fallen oil jet and i am starting a small business so i have to keep pushing off the repairs so then the paranoia kicks in lol.
