You all have me scared about autolite glow-plugs from a previous threads so I will be pulling my driver side valve cover to see what type the previous owner put in. While I'm in there, I have been considering changing the #8 injector from the AE LL to a plain old AD injector now that I have a regulated fuel return mod installed. Does anyone have any experience with this? good idea or bad idea?
I replaced my #8 AE for a regular AD Injector. It was three or four years ago but I can say it was a fairly straight foward job, just make sure you get all the oil/fuel out of the cylinder before you turn it over the first time. I have not had any trouble with it since. It did reduce the knocking sound by about 25% at most.
#8 isnt too bad to do i just did all 8,dont loosen the top bolt, remove the oil deflector and the bottom bolt slide the plate up and pry under it leveraging from the top and it will pop out
also torque all the top bolts to the same amount 12 ft lbs while you are at it
I had a ft/lb torque wrench when I did mine and my injector hold-down bolt problems were epic... really. Acquire an in/lb torque wrench, even if it's rented or borrowed. THe spec calls for 120 in/lbs, many recommend 130 in/lbs, and I read a magazine article where they urge 140 in/lbs. With such varying opinions and my experience with this, that 120 in/lbs seems to be inadequate. I ultimately landed on 130 in/lbs, with an extra 1/8th-turn for good measure.
Drain your fuel bowl before you pull the stick, it sends less fuel into your oil.
Don't install anything until you've consulted with us on how to clear all the fluid out of the cylinder.
Any reason you want to change the #8 Injector? Dose it knock bad or you just want to do it. I did change mine but it still had a fuel knock with FRX. Fuel tank mods should be done also.
