So I've been doing the oil pan gasket on my '80 F-150 with the 300-6 engine, and everything has gone well until now. I raised the engine by means of a jack under the oil pan...but now that the job is complete and I'm putting everything back in place, it seems that the engine has shifted rearward by about 1" or so...the motor mount bolts won't go back into the holes in the perches. Instead, they contact the perches about 1" back from the holes.
How do I move the engine forward? Preferably safely and with minimal risk of breaking anything. I don't have an engine hoist...I have some jacks and a big pile of hand tools.
OK, problem solved...I wedged a bottle jack between the front of the driveshaft and the back of the transmission mounting bracket, and jacked the engine forward until it dropped into position.
To all of you who I am sure are furiously typing away with good ideas, thanks anyway.
