Reduilding a engine without a engine stand?

I want to get to tearing down my 460 and the PSD is on my engine stand and I dont have a second engine stand. Any of you guys ever rebuild engines without engine stands? IF so do tell!

Get another engine stand ...Or take the 7.3 off of it & set it on some blocks ...

But you already knew that ,didn't you ...

Yeah.. problem is when you go to work on the lower end (con rods, bearings, crank) you cant access them without removing the oil pan, and the oil pan rests just above crossmember. So if you have supreme patience, and dont mind squeazing the engine upward when you jack it up and suspend it to hopefully get the oil pan off, then have at it! LOL!

Another engine stand is very advisable!

LOL nah just some of the things in the yard that you think about after you sell and think dang why did i sell that.on them 2 i sold them and they wound up not able to use in the class.so they just stored them for me and payed me money to do it.made about 1200 on those deals .but theres 2 motors leaving today and going to look at 2 more.its just what i do
so if you need any 460's or 302 ford's or stuff and are close just hit me up.

Yeah local Harbor Freights are 100 miles away. And they rape you on shipping. But I may break down and see if Autozone has one. And for the PSD, I dont have blocks to set it on. I already thought that one out.

you could stand it on the bellhousing side I guess, but it would sure be a PITA. Try auto parts place for a stand, much easier.

In my old F350 (390 motor)I replaced the main and rod bearings and rear seal. Started saturday morning, pulled the motor with a come along and chain from a tree branch. flipped it over on a piece off plywood. Replaced the bearings and seal.had it done by three on sunday rolling back down the rode. The reason I did this was the rear seal leaked terrible bad. no leak afterwards. That was so long ago I had forgotten about it.

Watch harbor frieght. If u spend so much sometimes they give u free shipping. I order a 90 amp flux core welded. A diesel compression tester and some other stuff. Free shipping and got it in 2 days.

In college I had a 50 plymouth and pulled the motor with a tree branch. Then this guy at the auto parts store had a flat head six rebuilt for $10 bucks. I put that motor in and moved out of the apartment with the other flat head six hanging from the tree. I can't imagine why we didn't get our security deposit back?? LOL

harbor freight can't be that much shipping, I just ordered a 12 ton press and it was only 12 bucks to ship it...

edit: I don't use anything less than the 2000lb stand for my 514, safety first.
