Freaking heat shield

I got a heat shield that just will not stop causing me grief. When I installed the headers and pipes I had a heat shield that was too close to the passenger side pipes. I bent it down some to clear the pipe and got rid of a nasty metallic sound I had on the throttle and making left hand turns. Well that little sound returned last week and I crawled under and looked and sure enough the heat shield was touching again. Who knows why maybe a bit a spring sag. So yesterday I bent it down a little more. Today I start getting a nasty clunk on dips and especially when on a bump why turning. I crawl under there too look and find the same heat shield now has a huge gouge on the under side of it where the leaf spring near the rear bushing is smacking it.

So thoughts? I'm sure Ford put it there for a good reason so hate to remove it.

First pic of the hacked up bend job I put on it.
Second pic of the gouge in the bottom of it where it's hitting.

If you dont want to remove it id just trim off the area where you had to bend it and where its hitting

Think I can get a sawzal in there? Be a chore with a dremel, that's a long way to cut.

I cant exactly tell where it is, or how thick it is, but if it was pretty thin i would just use tin snips

FYI... When I did my headers on previous V10 I went with a full Banks kit that included new heat shields. I don't know if I would remove it, I would probably just trim some more. If you can't find a replacement from Ford, you may want to try banks direct they may just sell you the shield you need.

This shield?

I cut mine as needed to clear my exhaust. Used a tip snip when the exhaust was off. In fact it's cut enough I can get my shackle bolts out without hitting it too.

ok think I am going to take the entire thing down, do a little "modding" to customize the shield to work with both my pipes and the spring shackles.. Let you boys know what I come up with . Not going to try to cut it on the truck though, hearing all kinds of "no no no" voices telling me not to try it.

Passenger side above the leaf bracket here is a wider angle taken with camera right under the transmission pan looking at the passenger side of the truck. Its right behind where the end link of the front sway bar mounts into the frame. You can see the smaller heat shield over the end link. This shield is ford installed, and appears to be there to protect the bushing in the leaf spring. It's too thick for tin snips and in a tight spot. Plan to take it off completely do some trimming and reinstall it. The mount bolts were rusty, sanded down, and sealed over with KBS, second photo. Guessing I will have to replace the mount bolts, been there done that got the shirt and over trying to remove bolts like that, easier to just cut em off and replace.

Three bolts holding that shield on....

One out with the impact - enough room to get it on there.
One out with a ratcheting breaker bar
One met it's demise via a dremel cutting wheel

Just because I hear so much about it on here and I was having a "clunk" I put a socket and bar on the upper end link bolt that was right next to the heat shield bolt and holy cow I got two full fairly easy turns out of that thing. SO...the clunk probably a combination of the heat shield being bent down to clear my headers and a loose upper end link bolt.

For now shield is off and trimmed down to clear the places it was hitting. Now just have to figure out how to get that tack welded bolt out (without destroying the shield) so I can replace it with a new bolt. I can reach the back side of it so a regular bolt and nut will work just fine.

1st picture - shield off
2nd picture - after it's trimmed
3rd picture - the end link bolt that was very loose
