Gooseneck Hauling with a 2013 F150
How capible is the 2013 f150 with the crew cab,6.5 foot bed and the ecoboost motor. The reason I ask is my dad just bought that truck and I have a 25 foot gooseneck equipment trailer that i want to pull with it on a long trip loaded with ATVs. I want to use his truck instead of mine simply because it is a crew cab and mine is an extended cab. The trailer weighs aprox 5,400 pounds and the estimate weight for gear and atvs is probably another 4000 and then another 1000 pounds of human. (NOTE: all of these weights are overestimates) Most if the trip is flat at sea level ending up in the mountians.
What do you thin? Is this a bad idea?
If we take my truck my 6.0 wont even feel this weight....lol...but my buddy and I are thinking about loading a spare 6.0 truck on the trailer with the atvs incase one breaks down!!!lol jk

If you are talking about towing 10,400 lbs. you would need to have it. Is it an XLT or Lariat? 4X2 or 4X4?

Another consideration is whether it has max payload as well. Goosenecks tend to put quite a bit of weight into the bed and you'll need that extra payload (it's almost another 1,000 lbs over the next most capable F-150). You can easily tell if it's max payload, it'll have a 7 lug axle. Otherwise, max capacity at best for those trucks is roughly 1800 lbs before adding people, cargo and fuel. Of course not everybody lives by the sticker in the door jam.

I have a King Ranch 6.5' bed. I have Firestone airbags and tow a PJ 25' gooseneck with adjustable dovetail that weighs in at 5800 lbs empty. So far the most that I have carried on it is about 2500 lbs of pipe, fence posts and barb wire. The trip was 50 miles each way. I got around 9 mpg going and coming @ 60mph (truck only has 1300 miles on it)
Downshifted about 5 times to 5th on some 3-4% inclines but no lack of power. This was in upper 90's and without a tune. Now I have tow tunes from SCT, 5 Star and So Cal (on the way) so I am anxious to see what kind of difference they make.

That's why you are supposed to have trailer brakes on both axles. With a load on the trailer I can stop the truck and trailer with the trailer brakes alone- now I wouldn't do that too often or you will be buying new brake magnets all of the time.
Now if I hit the trailer brakes without a load on the trailer I can just drag it behind my ecoboost with all four trailer tires smoking.

No way. I dont understand why everyone does not use Gooseneck trailers. They are much safer! They handle better, they ride better and put the load in a much safer position on the truck (over the axle not behind it!). In my opinion everything about a GN trailer is better and safer than a bumper pull! As for the dually one ton, yes the dually has more stability but its not noticable untill you get into some really heavy loads and for the one ton, you might want to look into the differenced between the f250 and f350, because there really isnt much (atleast for the 07 and older).
