2014 trailer tow packages
I'm trying to fine tune the list of options that I want on my new F-150 XLT. The ford website (Canadian) shows the trailer towing package as an option but not the Max TT package. Other then the increased towing capacity (which doesn't appear to be very much) is there any difference between the two? TIA.

Hi Bill,
There are a few differences, but none of them are real meaningful unless you plan on towing over 10,000 lbs. The max tow package comes with an upgraded hitch(11,500 lbs), larger tow mirrors, upgraded engine cooling, and the trailer brake controller. All of these can be added to the order without the max tow package except for the larger radiator and hitch.
ON edit: See attached for the relevant page from the 2013 Order Guide.

Thanks Tom. The sheet you sent is very helpful and much better then the F-150 booklet the dealer gave me which shows all the F-150 models. I had specified almost everything on the list you sent including the manual telescoping mirrors. What I didn't specify is the max payload package which I don't want. I had also selected the 3.55 electronic locking rear end but I noticed that the sheet indicates you have to have the 3.73 rear end. This may be why the max towing package is not available for me to select. Oh well. I'll just go with the regular tow package and manual telescoping mirrors. I won't be towing anything over about 6K or 7K and using a weight distributing hitch so I'll probably be fine. Thanks again.

I wouldn't worry about 3.55s keepin' you down Bill. I tow 9-10,000 lbs every so often with my truck and I wish I had 3.55s or 3.31s. With 3.73s I can handily spin the rear wheels in first gear with 10,000 lbs behind me. I don't think I'd lose any towing ability with slightly lower gears in the rear end, but I'd gain some unloaded fuel economy.
