my ignition module went out it my 1990 f150 4.9 and i want to take it off with out pulling the distributor and i have heard that in order to get the retaining screws out you have to have a special socket or you can use a allen wrenches any input?
You need a thin wall 7/32 socket for those bolts.. allen key won't work, but I don't know if it is possible to remove the bolts with the distributor in an I6 motor, I just know it's not possible on the V8s.
havent got to it yet i had worked on exhaust today but im going to try to grind down the outside of 7/32 to fit in side and ive heard its a little technique to pull it after the i get the screw out thanks for the input guys
If you can, make sure and mark your distributor position, that way when it gets moved you can at least get it back to close and then fine tune the timing once you have the new part in.
