In response to your question, use a 7/32" deep socket. You will probably have to grind the wall so it fits into the recessed hole.
Also JC Whitney sells a tool that they claim allows removal of the module without disturbing the distributor.
It's p/n 81TB4356U for $10 s&h.

and muscle it out of there. I tried to and it made a very faint but sickening "crack" and that was all she wrote. $80. Buy/borrow the special Ford module tool and dont forget the thermoconductive grease on the flat portion when putting her back in. Be gentle with that module...it does'nt take much. Jack

Dale ,
There is a tool available that is inexpensive made especially to remove the TFI Module . I am sure you can find one at any parts store ...Lisle is the company that makes the one I have . Its designed to fit in the holes ..it has a **** on the end to turn or you can use a 1/2 wrench to turn it .

When you remove the screws, you must first push the module straight down about a half inch, then you can pull it away from the distributor body. It's a good idea to remove the cap so you can steady the pickup coil connector with one hand while pulling the module straight down with the other.
