I am about to purchase an 01 f250 7.3 and the dash gauges are swapped from a gasoline truck (not sure what model) and i was wondering if the mileage that the Odometer read was the true reading of the truck or from what the gauges came off of. a fast response would be appreciated because i plan on buying the truck on tuesday.
I'm sure that mileage is off from what the truck really has on it.
I believe there is a way to check the mileage from the pcm, but i don't know how to do it.
ok well from another thread i found on here wall ago and some other research it looks like it stays with wherever that dash came from. and no luck on finding out about reading the pcm. i couldnt find anything. as far as the truck it ran great no leaks. its been all stock its whole life, oil was clean. my gut instinct is saying its a good truck. any opinions??? Might not be relevant but the mileage showing is 195,000
ok i'll do that once i receive a copy of the title later today. the only thing with that is i know alot of people that service these trucks themselves. thanks for all the input! i appreciate it
Do not need title for car fax just the vin #. Guess if your gut is alright with you and the inspection is good ,price is good and you will be happy ,then go for it.
just talked with the guy some more and he says that he left the original mileage on the truck while swapping dash. is this possible?? like i mentioned i've never changed a dash before so i dont know if its possible. i have an 02 with 254k on it and this truck seems less wore than mine and after inspecting it it seems about right to have 195k.
the only way to keep the original mileage on the new cluster is to send it to ford or a speedometer shop and have it changed, short of opening it yourself and doing it.
I almost bought a used cluster for my service truck with 62,000 miles on it, but kind of hard to hide the other 260,000 miles on the truck when the state tracks mileage at all title transactions.
