Bad turbo?
Ok so pretty sure my turbo took a crap on me tonight. But would like some opinions. Truck has no power takes forever to build any boost blowing grayish white smoke, CEL P0299. Truck is lurching and just has no power. Assuming its all turbo related. My main question is can any one confirm my suspicions and would it be worth trying to rebuild what i have or get a new one. truck also has 157XXX miles on it unsure if original turbo or not.

P0299 is a code that can come from anything from turbo, ebp sensor or plugged tube, icp issues, high pressure oil issue, low side oil volume issue, FICM concerns (especially low voltage), failing injectors, low battery voltage or alternator issue, fuel pressure, egr valve, damaged MAP sensor or hose, etc. To know for sure will require more troubleshooting.
What model year do you have?
Start by cleaning the MAP sensor hose, and also the EBP tube (assuming the truck engine is not a 2003 engine). Check for cracks in the MAP sensor hose when you remove it. Inspect the CAC (Charge Air Cooler) tube boots carefully for leaks. Also check the charge air cooler seams ..... sometimes they fail.

If its any one of these issues then it is deffinatly good news on my end new turbo definatly wasnt in the budget. does it make any difference that the is oil on the inlet side of the turbo? Are there any of these parts that ore low enough on the engine that could be dammaged by a shallow water crossing. Barly deep enough to cover the running boards.

Looks like I'm dealing with a bad ebp sensor checked this morning with scanguage was reading about 21 with truck off and at idle. Pulled sensor cleaned and reinstalled now reads 6.3 at all times with a cel for low voltage on sensor. So am I wrong to assume I need a new one. Also I have to order sensor up from the lower 48 so I plan to do the #7 injector at same time aswell as cleaning the turbo. What special parts should I locate to do these jobs and is there anything else to tackle while I'm in there. Also will be doing ipr? On back side of turbo to get rid of my intermittent no start issue.

I recently had trouble with my EBP sensor and I read that one of the latest flash upgrades uses other sensor inputs to calculate the EBP value. I suppose this was done because of numerous problems with this sensor. I took my truck to the dealership had it flashed and this resolved my problem.
If your going to replace the sensor you will probably need a crowfoot wrench (or at least this would be required where my sensor is located). While you have everything apart I would certainly clean the tube that connects to the sensor.
