2 tubes

Just got the truck back from having some work done. I now have the return of a problem I had almost 4 years ago. When driving at highway speeds the turbo worked well. When climbing a hill (or any type of increased load that cause the turbo to kick in harder) you could hear the turbo start to kick off and on in rapid cycles, and later when it got much worse, puffs of black smoke would go in cycles with it. The first attempt at repair at the dealer was cleaning the turbo. That helped some for a short time, but the problem returned and got worse. A return trip to the dealer repaired the problem. It was described as " there are two tubes (I think he said plastic) that get clogged." When those got cleaned out, it worked fine until I got it back yesterday. There is no black smoke as of yet and the cycling problem currently only occurs in the first few gears, then levels out at highway speeds. The work I was having done was getting the BPD external oil cooler installed, so the turbo has been off this week. Also, my truck had the old style turbo oil feed line and had to be upgraded to the new style to mate with the BPD oil transfer block. Anybody know what's up? Anybody heard of these 2 tubes that get clogged?

Perhaps the MAP sensor hose that connects to the passenger side of the intake and the EBP sensor that connects to the drivers side exhaust manifold? The MAP sensor is located above the evaporator housing on the passenger side.

Well that may explain everything. I just drove it for an hour, and about half way, I noticed that when they were putting everything back together, they had obviously re-connected the Edge programmer to the MAP sensor. I could tell that since my Attitude monitor that I still use to monitor EGTs, was reading boost. I had that disconnected on purpose and have already disconnected it today. I'll see if that fixes it. If not, I think I know what it needs now. Thanks.

Well, disconnecting the Edge from the MAP sensor didn't fix it. I really didn't think it would, since I ran it for a while with it connected and didn't have this problem then. Any idea as to why this would start now? Did he get something in these tube when putting it all back together? Fail to reconnect something?

MAP 14.4, EBP I don't seem to have programmed in. Have you got the code for it handy?

'03 engines don't have an EBP data that can be monitored, if it has had the Ford mandated 06E17 reflash.

Mine reads an EBP of 15.0. Lord only knows what flash I'm running.

Does it change when the engine is running? After the reflash back sometime in 2006, EBP was literally taken out of the equation. The updated strategy changed to what is called "inferred EBP" meaning the PCM would substitute an EBP value based upon inputs from other sensors.

Yes, I'm running 75 mph now and it's running 26-31. I doubt I've had a re flash since 2004.
