Question about Odometer
Question about Odometer
Hi all, I have a question and not sure where to post it.
On Saturday, I went to my local dealer and test drove several of the new 2013 F150. On one of the trucks, I noticed that it had 783 miles on the truck. Since I was interested in buying this one, I asked them why so many miles. They stated that it could have been driven from another dealer. OK, no big deal. Well, we didn't come to an agreement on the price that day, but I returned on Monday after further negotiations to buy the vehicle. I bought it and immediately had to leave to go to Nashville (from Memphis).
After about 30 miles into my trip, I noticed that the odometer only ready 30+ miles. I originally thought it was the trip odometer, but it wasn't. I drove to Nashville and back (about 450 miles) and have driven it since then. My truck now shows only 530 miles on it. I took it up to the dealer today and asked them about it. They immediately said that they had never heard of such a thing at the miles being erased from one of these trucks. I let them know that I had seen and discussed the mileage with the salesman on Saturday, their website stated that it had 783 miles on it, and my documentation from the sale stated 783 miles. However, now it only has 530. They could not explain it and just said to watch it to see if it did it again.
I am not accusing anyone of fraud. This is a reputable dealer, and I can't imagine that they would risk so much to "erase" the miles (if that is even possible).
I had gotten help so many times on this site when I owned my 97 F150 that I had to come back and see if any of you had ever heard of this happening.
Thanks,
J

Hey, thanks for your reply. When I got home from my trip, I looked the truck up on their website and compared stock numbers and they matched. I didn't think to check the VIN. I printed the web page out so, I will compare that this afternoon. I think that it is the same truck though, because they only had 2-3 V8 Super Crew cabs on the lot that weren't 4X4, and none of those were the same color.
I agree it is interesting. I can't think of a reason to manually reset the mileage since I was perfectly fine in buying a truck with 783 miles on it. It does give me longer on the warranty because it is documented on the purchasing paperwork as 783 miles. Since they were erased, for lack of a better term, I effectively get 1566 miles extra on the warranty.

First of all, congratulations on your new truck! Secondly, I'd be happy to get your regional customer service manager involved. If you'd like me to proceed, just send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name. I'll make them aware of what you've been experiencing and have them contact you.

Update:
I have talked to several people at the dealer, and even sent an email to the VP of the dealer (after he contacted me thanking me for the business and offering any assistance if I ever needed it). The email stated the mileage issue, but I haven't gotten a response from him.
I read on this site that I need to be a member for 10 days before I can PM someone. So I guess when I am at my 10 day mark, I will PM Crystal and see if I can get this answered.
I hate to say it, but no response from a couple of emails that I sent seems to be odd. Now I REALLY want an answer.

If you don't want to wait, you can always contact my colleagues at the Customer Relationship Center. Give them a call at 1-800-392-3673; I know they'll be happy to help.
