My coolant filter keeps leaking a little. I've tried silicone grease on the filter gasket and, in stages, tightening it so tight it bends the can...am I going to have to bypass this thing to keep it from leaking? I got it form riff raff I think...machined alum. base. My upper hose rest against it...could that be a problem? May try tying the hose off to pull it away. Darned elc is too expensive to leak away...
Did you try a different filter by chance. While you have the filter off look at the mating machined surface or feel for a rough spot. New filter might fix it.
Yeah Bill, I tried a different filter. It doesn't leak a lot...just slowly seeps out. Leaves a little puddle [3"] under the filter after parking. I may give the vendor a call...
Got mine from Sinister Diesel and thought the same thing but ended up being one of the hose nipples needed to tightened. Made it look like the filter wasn't sealing
Huh, well mine came from dieselsite...I'll double check my hose connections. I can see coolant around the filter between the filter and the housing, but, I guess a hose leaking could look like that also. I'll check. Thanks
Go buy some Scotch-Brite and run it in a circular motion around the aluminum where the filter seals. You want no "radial lines" or blemishes, just circular lines. This is the case with all o-ring sealing surfaces.
Can you see where the leak is? Is it coming from where the filter touches the housing? One of the hoses? A hose connection? Etc.
If you've got the time and parts, yank the filter out of the truck and hook it up to a garden hose so you can watch and see where the leak is coming from.
