1995 F150 Power Window intermittent

Frustrating. Driver's side power window works most of the time. But, some days it does nothing. Will take it to the store and back, doesn't work. Next 10 days works fine. I am afraid to use for fear it will get stuck down. I replaced the switch hoping that might be the issue since driver side and used more the passenger side obviously, but nope. How do I diagnose this when it is so intermittent? Maybe a ground wire that is barely making a good connection? Is there something in this year truck that is usually the cause of this intermittent issue. Not sure how to diagnose other than maybe pull the door panel off and start yanking on wires and try and make it fail while it is in working mode.

Uh, how would I get the window back up if it did get stuck while making a trip to the store? I have to pull the door panel off and manually push it up somehow?

when the window does not respond, check the voltmeter on dash as you actuate the window. Does the voltmeter drop? if so, the motor is most likely bound up. If no deflection of meter then the motor is not trying to run and problem is most likely in wiring. My 90 did this for no partidular reason, even after pulling motor and replacing the clutch parts and cleaning and lubing the gears. Had to take off door panel and loosen the 3 bolts holding motor and then reisnstall the motor. found problem was window would bind if taken down too far so I just made sure I did'nt run it all the way to the bottom, stopped it as soon as it was flush with window frame.

If by any chance the window gets stuck down, take the door trim off, then take the window motor off, then you'll be able to push/pull the window up, after you have it there, hold it in that position until you place the motor back and insert the 3 bolts back.

Try slamming the door while holding the switch, OK now laugh all you want,,, Through laughing yet?

I had a '91 Explorer that did that and I slammed the door for a few days until the new one I ordered came in.. I think my problem was the brushes were so wore out they weren't making contact until they got a little nudge...

I'm not saying this is a fix in any sort of way, just if you forget and open the window and it don't want to go back up, try this, it will beat a plastic garbage bag. And, if this does work, then there is a pretty good chance you motor is about gone...

That works, the recoil from the door handle if you release it fast will also work as a temporary "fix".

Update

Okay window wasn't working again yesterday. Hit the switch and the voltmeter did respond(dropped a little in voltage) each time I hit the switch. So, sounds like wiring is okay, probably need to replace the motor. Did this once before on my last truck, passenger side though. Shouldn't be too bad I guess. Any quick advice on tackling that?

Not much I can tell you . If you have done one side the other is the same. Also if that side has never been done, you will have to drill the three dimples with a 3/8 bit, I think, to get at the bolts holding the motor. I would make sure that it wasn't just bound up before I bought a motor. As for time to do, I did mine so often before I found what the problem was I could pull the panel, take the motor loose, put it back and put the panel back on in 30 min. Or less.

Well took a vacation day to just relax a little and replace the motor for my driver's side window. Replaced the switch a few months ago, that did not resolve intermittent issues. Hopefully this new motor does the trick!
