That is true. I have a good tow program. After adding the DP Tuner the difference is absoluely amazing. I tow mostly in 60T In my case I can drop from 65mph pulling a grade to 60mph and drop egt by 400 degees which keeps me in the safe area.
I have a early 99 with smaller injectors and HPOP, what I read once made alot of sence to me. With stock injector and HPOP you may only benift so much. A 60hp tune would be max for my system.
But all that said. If I was to do some upgrades I would go with bigger uppies, 4" exhaust and maybe a 6.0 intercooler (just because I could pick one up cheap).
Just got the up pipes on and wow my truck sounds so much better and the turbo actually spools but still can only get 2 8 psi of boost but turbo response is outrages can't wait to pull with it... next is to get my ts chip reburns with some tow tunes

2 to 8... at WOT? Stock injectors, stock turbo, tuned, at WOT:
Ok up pipes are on turbo response a lot better but still only 28 on boost and can't tow very much with out gettin hot... 28 foot bumper pull camper weighs 8000. I have towd in all chip settings and even stock tune I have to watch it it will get to 1200 and in any other tune it gets hotter way faster. I did a short hard pull and hit 1350 and backed out and that was easy to hit... What do I do... Water meth ?
OK... I'm following now - there was a space between 2 and 8 on your post, and I didn't "put it together".
Your wastegate wasn't adjusted when you installed your 38R - I made the same mistake, and I corrected it. Torque shows my boost with a boost-fooler, the true boost is the top-right gauge.
What y2k said. Get it out of overdrive before you hit the grade. Rpms around 2500. If you hit top 1200 egt's (I think my gauge turns to red at 1300). come off the peddle and down shift if need be. I have had to pull a grade or two towing 12,000lbs at 40mph....but not very often...
dmanshane... have you tried downshifting a gear when the pyro gets over 1200?
I have found downshifting to instantly reduce EGTs when climbing a grade under load.
Even though the engine is screaming at 2500 RPM, the EGTS drop a lot.
yes I run in 5th not 6th even on flat with no wind I can't run in 6 unless I'mrunnin 80 mph
And I just have a ts chip from ts all ts I need to get it reburn but still not sure from who pprobablygo with tTonywildman

I normally run about 65 mph in 5th while towing
That's kind of what I was suspecting, but I meant REALLY downshift.
I would try running in 4th or 3rd on the grades, depending on how steep and how heavy the load is. I would aim toward elevating RPMs up to between 2,200 to 2,600, and dropping speed to around 50-55 when towing those grades... and see if the EGT's don't drop substantially (and sustainably).
