When I have my camper hooked.on.. its a 29 foot bumper pull... I see very high egts I can easilly hit 1400... I try to keep it under 1200 but even a little hill makes them sky rocket.. my up pipes are a bit leaky only when I pull they get that fluttering ticking noise... guessing thats.because the heat makes the spyder expand. Other than up pipes any ideas im bout to buy water meth to help cool while pulling... help please
Water/meth won't help unless you fix your issues at hand first. Leaky up pipes can also lead to low boost as well. Another place these trucks have leaks is the exhaust manifolds. What's your boost psi?
Sounds good, but I don't think you should tow in the 100 tune.
I agree when I tow my fiver on steep grades I use the 40 tow with no problem! When I get in the flat lands I have been using my 80E with no problem so far. I generally start rollin with the 60T because of the shift profile and once rollin I put it in 80E. Truck really responds well and if I don't have any long sharp climbs my EGT is good!
I have ran stock 40 80 100 and 140 and100 has the best egets um about 2000 rpm got to remember my up pipes are junk so I'm hoping this is the problem and before long my chip is going to get re burnt
When I am towing my Toy Hauler 12k pounds in 60 tow tune pulling a grade my egts would sore too if I did not take my foot out of it. The truck will want to pull it but I have to back off to drop the egt's. I think it is what it is. Get it out of overdrive right away when you approach the grade maintan your speed, watch egt's when they they start to get to the danger zone let off. Even a little will drop egt right away... You may get to a steep enough grade where you will have to drop down to a lower gear. Let me know if those uppies help any...
It doesn't have to be that way when towing. I used to tow our 5th wheel adjusting the throttle by the EGT gauge - not fun. There are ways to reduce it quite a bit, depending on your setup. For example, a bigger turbo exhaust outlet would drop it 100 degrees, an intercooler upgrade could easily drop EGT's 200 while towing, and of course some good tow programs.
