I made a 200 mile trip over the weekend pulling a 7000# BBQ trailer that has a flat front with a clearance of 11'. With AE software I monitored MAP, VGT, EOT, ECT, ICP.
When pulling small hills my MAP would go over 30psi and VGT 43% at 2500rpms in 4th gear. On level ground going 60 -65 MAP 20psi VGT ~50% at less than 2000rpms in high gear. I had to keep my rpms below 2500 and as a result I would end up slowing down to 50mph on the up hills and slowly gain on the flat stretches of road. My MPG for the trip was 7.5. Due to the Boost issue and higher shift point in tow mode, I could not use tow mode.
I know that a dirty tubro can cause over boost but here is the odd part. AE will allow you to Close or Open the VGT. When I open the vgt my boost will drop to 14psi. VGT 0% and have no power while driving.
If the tubro or VGT was sticking/not working it would seem to me that changing the VGT with AE would not make that much of a difference. Why is the Truck computer not reacting to the MAP of 30 and dropping the VGT duty cycle %
Faulty MAP?
Faulty AE readings?
I do have an exhaust leak at the exhaust man on the drivers side and that's next on my list of thing to fix.
When NOT running - isn't MAP normally 14 PSI (+/- based on altitude and atmospheric conditions)? IF so, then 30 is only 16 lbs of boost..
That's how my SG2 displays them anyway. I had an leak at my exhaust manifold to y-pipe and could NOT reach 20PSI boost. Now with the leak gone I've gotten 24PSI very easily now.
That makes sense. I never thought of it that way. I have seen My MAP as high as 37 and backed out ASAP worried I was about to blow a gasket. I Guess that would only be 23psi boost. I feel much better now.
