Okay..I got the new software update off the website and put it on a USB. Afterwards, I installed the USB in my truck, it began to upload and locked up. A message appears saying " waiting for USB Device" (even though it's installed). Afterwards,a second message appears that says " canceling". Other than the messages I outlined, the screen is black and is frozen. Nothing works. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I just did the SYNC upgrade to my F350 yesterday, and it went in fine. Maybe try downloading again, load to the USB again, then make sure your truck is running and plug in the USB. It took me about 20 minutes for the full install with the truck running the whole time. Maybe that will help.
What he said...!!! I also drive a 12 Lincoln MKX, and my sync has had two factory updates since I bought it. It worked just fine before, and it does work even better now than before the updates. I asked the dealer why Lincoln, or Ford, would even consider any Microsoft system when they are known for releasing stuff before it's ready.
Since I have a Mac, and my wife and daughter's PC's are junk while my Mac is as good as the day we bought all three it 4 years ago...

Hi 448AA,
You could try removing the SYNC fuse for about 5 minutes to hard reset the system. Please refer to your owners manual. You can pull up a digital version by specifying your make, model, and year or by entering your VIN: http://ford.to/12lQXvp
In the event the system still won't restart, your dealership will need to address the issue. Otherwise, go ahead and attempt another install after the system refreshes. Let me know if you have any other questions!
And it's these silly little things that will sink Ford's reliability ratings. Too bad, there are other good systems on the market and Ford choses to use this one.
Personally I would wait awhile before doing the update. I updated mine and the new features are nice but the GPS positioning is worse than it was before. Mine would offset itself randomly a few hundred yards which basically makes it useless because it thinks you are on the side roads. It is even worse now after the update, does it every 5 minutes or so. Also now having issues with holding HD radio stations, something I didn't have a problem with before.

Hello cford716,
Have you consulted with your dealership regarding this issue? In the event the update has not brought any improvements to your navigation functionality, this could possibly point to a hardware issue with your GPS module.

I have been planning on that. Then the upgrade came and I was hoping that would fix it. Since it hasn't, I will be going to the dealership. Thanks.
Did the Sync/MyFordTouch update yesterday. The procedure was pretty straight forward and took about 20 minutes as advertized. The only hiccup came when trying to pair and connect my phone. When the truck was new and I did the first pair/connect, it was a first time success. After the update, it didn't seen to want to pair/connect. Finally, after 15 minutes of repeated tries, it took....WHEW! Had me worried there for a few minutes. Not sure what else besides the better phone connectivity ( which was given by Ford as one of the upgrades...I suspect it means MORE phones will connect....but a bit ironic since I had a harder time connecting my phone with the upgrade ) is in the upgrade and I haven't driven the truck since doing it. I'll be in it later this morning and will see if I can tell any difference from the previous version. Stuff like this always scares me a bit. It was working perfectly before the upgrade to the latest version....would hate for it to start having problems now, with no way of going back to the previous working version! I've had that experience with computer programs before and it sucks!
Do ford dealerships do the sync upgrades if you need one? My truck is at a dealer now for other issues and said to them to upgrade the sync since i read there was an update. they said they dont do that stuff.

Hi 97flairside,
Dealerships are independently owned and operated, which may lead to variances in equipment or services they have to offer. If your dealership is normally able to update SYNC software, its possible the service attendant you spoke with might have been new or wasn't aware.
Please PM your name, VIN, dealership, and best contact number. I will look into this to determine the best course of action available.
