hello, just picked up a new 09 f350 sc lariat and it has the sync but not the factory navigation. dealer told me the new nav is a hard drive {not sure what that means} and would be 2700$ installed. i def want the new style oem nav but this just seems way way too much. i saw a new take out 09 ford nav on ebay with a money back guarentee{sp} for 1900$ it says plug and play. and has everthing for install. would pay that much if it is not crazy hard too put in. is this a pretty easy swap?
$1900 is quite a bit for a pulled unit. You can get some really nice aftermarket systems for that, installed. Kenwood's for example even runs Garmin software.
That said, I've never swapped one myself in a Ford (I'm new to Ford), but Chevy used to have other modules elsewhere in the car that had to be installed...made it a PITA.
Not sure, but keep me posted. I'm in the market for a new truck, but the dealer says I cannot buy an XLT with NAV. I need to buy the Lariet, with every bell and whistle. I think its over kill just to get a GPS. If I could buy the XLT I want then add the NAV I'd do it.
hey, I just recently installed full nav/sat radio in my 09 550. I got the stock radio when I ordered the truck. I phoned the dealer they take all the info, seriel # everything. Then they call the company who supplies the radios. That place programs the radio to your vehicle. You get it in a couple days in the mail. If you are capable enough of installing it yourself then you can. However you have to rewire two wires in your steering wheel so use your own judgement. My dealer told me 4 hour install but i chose to do it myself. I like the new radio has some nice features. I havent yet had time to play with all the fine details to take full advantage of its capabilities. I do recomend you call your dealer for a part number for the correct one for your vehicle if planning to get from ebay or somewhere else, then you will have to go into the dealer to get it programmed. Also if installing it your self phone them and get wiring diagrams and more info cause the instrustions that come with the radio are the sh#ts. You also have to install a amplifier and the radio antenna, gps antenna and a new steering wheel switch. Every thing comes as one package its called a radio upgrade. Good Luck

can i ask how much you paid for it thru the dealer? and was it the new style 09-10 hard drive radio with juke box?
It was redicucally expensive, the parts guy said was the same amount as if you were to order it from factory. Close to 3000$ cdn.and yes it is the newest one. The only thing you should get would be the operation manual. That has to come from helm for only 10 bucks you cant go wrong.
Haywoody, where did you mount the Amp and Nav antenna? Also, did you only have to switch wires for the steering wheel or change out the controls completely?
I found a little spot under dash agianst the fire wall right behind the radio and just tie wrapped it. the amp i have tied up behind the panel under the steering wheel with all the wires. I had to change a steering wheel switch and rewire 2 wires from there. Also had to run new wires for the microphone to the snyc module. If you got the package then you must follow all the directions and perfom all changes. I did not and ended up calling them for help. They were great but once i performed all modifications my system performed flawlessly.
When I talked with an installer he said that All I would have to change are the steering wheel controls, and install the AMP, never mentioned any wiring changes... Why did you have to rewire?
I did all this a while ago so let me think. Also not sure on you vehicle which options you have? The switch is different so you have to rewire for that, and also the microphone for sync is not able to pick up your voice either and you rewire for that. Now I am a mechanic and understand whats going on. Its not hard to do but the directions I got were confusing. I called the company that supplies the radio etc. and they were great. Also called local Ford dealer and got the nessassary wiring diagrams to do the job. If you have a super duty its gotta be the same as mine. I think I threw all my paper work out buy now. At the steering colum you cut 2 wires at clockspring connector and run them back to plug on radio. The 2 wirse you cut run to sync module they must be moved inside the plug and run them to the back of new radio. I found the info. Call 800-448-0944 ext 3553 ask for Ron this is at united radio. ALso this is for a 2009 so if you have something different also if you have different options than I, It may be not the same procedure that I had to do. I would not recomend you do this unless you have all the info needed, not really a simple radio install like most aftermarket radios. If you go ahead and do this get all info and read and understand everything. also I did not do the step that says (you may have to rewire the microphone) I tried it and if you yell loud enough it would hear me. Then one day it didnt. I called them and the said I had to perfom that step so I did then it was all good. It probably took me 4-5 of total work to do. I think that the only part that is from the factory is the radio, the amp and the antenna are different then if already installed from factory. So the mounting locations are not the same I looked and looked and researched and just tied up and shoved everything so it would fit. If you want they recomend you take it to your dealer for the install. Any questions just ask. BTW the radio is great.
