Fuel Sending Unit? 460 F-250
I'm having some issues that we think might be fuel related. When under load (mostly towing) I get a "lugging" that feels just like when I need to switch from one tank to the next.
I have changed fuel pump and filters. Replaced dizzy and adjusted timing. Adjust carbs. It isn't doing it as bad. If I stay off the gas and accelerate gradually, it doesn't really do it.
I got to looking at parts and it looks like the fuel sending unit has the float/wiring to my guage, but also a fuel like that comes out with a filter like device. Could that strainer be clogged and causing my lack of fuel?

No such thing.

D5TZ-9189-B .. Fuel Tank Selector Valve & Solenoid Assy ~ Mounts on cross member, marked: D5TB-9F271-AA or D8TB-9F271-AA or D9TB-9F271-AA / Used in conjunction with this:
D5TZ-9A050-A .. Selector Switch-located in heater control panel. Switches the tanks and the dash fuel gauge from one tank to the other.
1973/74's with dual fuel tanks use an entirely different setup.

It isn't the selector. It selects just fine between the tanks. I was just using that as a description of how it feels under load. Like when you run main tank until it runs out of gas. That lurching, lugging feel.
Every sending unit i'm finding shopping on like describes and shows some kind of filter/strainer on the sending unit's metal tubing.

Applications: ALL 1971/79 FoMoCo vehicles except Pinto/Bobcat/Maverick/Comet (use D1FZ-9A011-A 5/16" I.D. screen).
Auto 5 Browning, originally produced by FN (Fabrique National) in Liege Belgium. Later Remington version is Model 11.
'Course, if you know the A-5's history, this wasn't J. M. Browning's original plan to produce it in Belgium.

Yes, there is a nylon strainer on the end of the pick up.
Dennis Carpenter has them. $7.50
Dennis Carpenter Ford Car, F-100 Pickup Truck, 8N, 9N Tractor and Cushman Scooter Restoration Parts
D1FZ-9A0011-A 5/16" line
D1AZ-9A0011-A 3/8" line
If yours is the original sending unit, it should be 3/8"
Here's a NOS sending unit with the nylon strainer.
Something else, check the condition of all the rubber lines in the fuel system. These become hard over time and crack allowing the pump to suck air and act like you're running out of fuel.

Part number for what, the filter screen or the sending unit?
Filter: Where are you searching? Carpenter's 1967/79 truck repro parts catalog has it listed on page 41 (2011 paper version): $7.50. Much cheaper than FoMoCo is asking for the same puppy!
D1AZ-9A011-A = MSRP: $29.73 / FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor silverstatefordparts.com discount price: $21.41.
This is Gaudin Ford in Las Vegas NV, closest FTE sponsor to UT
Maybe yes, maybe no, it depends...
1973/79 F100/350: There's...at least...12 different sending units. What year is it? Is it a Regular, Super or Crew Cab or an F350 on the 140" wheelbase?
Is it for the mid-ship or aft axle tank, with or without Evaporative Emission?

Would the sending unit be the same on dual tanks vs the one?
