Ok so I'm brand new to this site, and was researching stuff earlier and I said what website is better to join besides this one. So my dad abut a year ago bout a 1994 ford f350 1 ton a has a lift and all with 35's and we pull alot but not to much weight. We just got a edge chip for his truck that added torqued and power to it. We have it on racing setting and because seems to have more power than towing. And right not at the moment all we have on is a big tex trailer and a four wheeler and knowing about 7.3 having a lot of power this one seems for ever to get up and go when pulling and when on a hill he can't pull worth a flip and it's just starts constily down shifting and still can't pull. Was wondering why in the he k does it not have any power. He has a 4 inch bully dog exhaust, a cool sir intake and all. And on the guage it seems to be that the manifold pressure only gets to 5 and nothing more. Just frustrates me and him to no end because we bought this truck to pull. What's y'all thoughts anything who's be great to know.
Unhook the electrical connection on the map sensor and see if it runs any better. It will set a cel, but will go away when you plug it back in. If it runs better check the hose for deterioration or plugging. Also make sure where the hose connects isn't plugged. If the hose is ok, and the truck runs better with the map unplugged, your map is bad. If the map sensor doesn't make a difference, check for boost and exhaust leaks too.
Welcome to FTE! Is it a Powerstroke or an IDI truck? All the 94.5 4x4 Powerstrokes have ZF 5spd. transmissions. If yours is an automatic, it's not a PSD. What gear ratio does the truck have, 3.55 or 4.10? The 4.10s are much better for towing, but which ever it is, I'd go with a smaller tire size.
Yea his truck had 4.10 gears, and is a powerstroke automatic. And the only reason he tows in racing is due to keeping the rpm up so we can climb those hills without shifting down a gear and rpm sky rocketing. Cause in towing it shifts into 5th around 55 and kind of lugs up there. Or it will shift back down. And even before we had the chip it was horrible it shifted fine but just seem liked it had no power. I honestly don't know really anything about cars/trucks in general. I just know do easy oil change/ filter change, air filter and small stuff like that I'm no mechanic. We're just wanting this thing to pull and get up and go just like any other 7.3 would. Thanks y'all for y'all's help.
