Ive been shopping for tires now for a few weeks. I scored a second set of rims and decided to get a set of snows on one and a new set of BFG TA KO on the other like I have now. They have been good tires. I talked to a tire dealer close to me that has a lot of tires in stock for a price. Tireland USA. He told me that he would be happy to sell me those but the new ten plys are not the same as the first or second generation and that the sidewalls are substantially thinner. He says they are junk and would not recommend them so I sakes about Michelins and he said the same thing same company makes both and the sidewalls are thinner. Any of you guys heard this before? He says he has lots to choose from better that those two in 285 75 16 E. What do you guys thin. Thanks for the input.
Not that type of place. Said he would be happy to sell me a set even offered me some almost new that people have taken off and put different ones cause the do not perform as well for folks that tow or work their trucks hard. Just wondering if anyone has heard this before. I'm gonna take a drive over there in a week he is gonna show me the new vs the old sidewalls.
I'm going tomorrow to my local tire place to remove what looks to be a sheet rock screw on my newer Ex. Now I'm curious, I will ask them the same question.
It's true. My cousin has run at least 10 sets of BFGs on his F250 and two Excursions and his most recent set has been nothing but problems. 2 with internal issues and the tread no longer stays flat across the top. BFG/Michelin will not replace as they say they never make defective tires.
I've run BFG all terrains since August 2007 and they have been nothing but good to me.
As long as you inflate them by what's on the tire and NOT what's on the door, you'll have a set of BFGs that won't let you down. I run through a set every 2-2.5 years because of all the miles I drive, but I think I'm on my 3rd set with absolutely no problems.
I bought some Cooper Discoverer A/T3s (305 70R16) and I'm very pleased so far. Great grip on and off road and fairly quiet on pavement.
They look burly too!
I am running the LT MS2 tires and love them. I need the 70,000 mileage. BFG's have been my favorite snow tire but I am lucky to get 40,000 miles on the mountain roads. As far as weak side walls I am an Concrete 4x4 driver. Occasionally I see fire roads in Meeker or here in Big Bear but not often. If I was to go rocking or harsh trails I would look for stronger sidewalls. On concrete all you need to do is avoid rocks and curbs. 2 ply is 2ply.

If the guy said "ten plys" that should be your first red flag, because they dont have ten plys. I have Michelins and love them. And while Michelin does own BFG now, Im not sure they actually make them.
