YIKES!! Had a failure on one of my 33x12.50x16.5 tires the other day. Was hoping to get a few more months out 'em. Tire ruined - the whole sidewall let go. Decided to buy new tires - no one in the area carried 16.5 tires in stock - but they could order them. No help as I was heading from MT to CA in 2 days. Luckily, I had purchased a set of stock 2002 wheels a few yrs back and never used them. Took them to Costco and got some Michelin LTX AT2's 265/75/15. Big handling difference over the 33x12.50's! Cost was just a tad over $900!
The tire guy said they had received a price increase the previous week - one tire went from $155 to $220 - sure glad there is no inflation!
It appears that fuel economy may be a little better with the narrower tires - I got 18-19 hwy with a topper on and 1000lbs in the back.
Yeah, my Big O tire dealer was quoting a guy last fall for some 16.5" tires when I was in there getting mine. Both truck were SD's. He asked me what I was paying for my set and i told him. He went back up and raised holly heck with the guy. I was paying a whole bunch less because mine were 16" rims vs. the 16.5" like he had. I guess they don't stock 16.5" and had to order them custom. Custom order = much more $$$!
You should see some better MGP's as a result of the smaller tire size.
Ouch -that does hurt but those are good tires- Hopefully last you a loooooong time!
One can hope. The old tires were under 3 years old and had under 35,000 on them. The valve stems were very cracked and I was within a day of taking them in to be replaced. When the tire repair shop guy went to inflate the old tire, he said it almost blew up on him the side wall was so weak.
The Costco guy said some people were reporting 70-80,000 miles from the AT/2's - hopefully they will be good in the snow.
I run 295.75.R16, as of today I have 62,000 mile on them but they will be replace next week. I'm trying to decide if I want to downsize them are go with the same size.
My last set of BFG's were $430 each (they now go for over $450 each), and only lasted 25K miles. Needless to say, I was pissed.
Curtis.....I'm confused, your sig says you run 36" tires? BFG's only come in up to 35's for 16 inch wheels, and 37's for 17's. Unless you're running 20's? Just wonderin
Those Michelins are very nice riding tires. I have them on the Wife's Expy and they ride and tow nice. You will notice a big difference in baking when you downsize tires as well. It should be much improved.

Yep, rollin on 20's. That's why they cost so freaking much.
I just put a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers (305/70 R16) on my truck for $163 ea. including the mount, balance and lifetime rotation. Didn't think that was too bad at all.
