Tire opinions

I need some opinions, I am in need of a new set of tires, and there are alot out there. I currently have 33x12.5x16.5 BFG A/T's, and I am not getting another set of them. What is a good on/off road tire with an E load range? I want good performance on and off road, long tread life, good looks, and a good price (don't we all). Tires are hard to find in 16.5's, should I get new tires and rims, or just tires? I am leaning toward an all terrain. Just wondering what everybody is running, and which are better and which to stay away from. Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Lol... care to state why you might not be getting another set of Bfg A/t's....
I had them too, and um, yea i wont willingly own another set either. I wish i could be of more help, ive heard good about cooper tires... I dont know which is there at or mt...
Any reason to stay with an AT tire? I went from 33" bfg to a 37" good year MR II. Im sure other will chime in with there expierences,

I think those 37s are only D load range.

I just went with nitto terra grappler a/ts on my superduty in 285/75/16r I think (or something close to that). So far they're a little squirmy on the street, but I think thats just because of having new tread. They do alright in the rain too. I haven't had them off road, but they look pretty aggressive for an a/t and look like they will fair pretty well if my tow rig ever ventures its way off the pavement.

I, like captain P4, went with Nitto Terra Grapplers, but in a 295/70/17 size (bear in mind that mine are D rated). So far with about 1500 miles on them they seem great, lots of sipes work well in the rain, so hopefully they'll be just as beneficial in the snow/ice.

The side wall has some "biters" to it as well, which looks cool while I cruise the mall parking lots.........seriously though it makes them look a little meaner than most A/T's.

I asked for E load range on mine, not sure if it makes any difference in the tread pattern, but I wanted to keep the same load range as what came on it.

I try to buy American so if if your looking for an allterain BFGoorich has always been a good tire. Right now I run a set of Procomp AT on my Bronco. I didn't buy them for offroading but for there 50,000 mile warrenty. My Bronco is my daily driver for now so I had to get a good tire at a good price. For $169.00 and 50,000 mile tread ware they have done good for me.

For an offroad tire I will be going back to the Gooodyear Mtr. When I go offroading with clubs the most popular tires are Goodyear, BFG, and Interco. Not alot of Jap tires, Nitto, Yokohama, Kumhos. I did see alot of Cooper Tires offroading in Australia, I think they like the Cooper SSR, I maybe wrong SST?

Sonneborn, you might think about looking for a set of take-offs,there are a lot out there for superduty's. either tires/wheels or just wheels, then you head to the tire shop! A lot of the 16.5 tires are going to be load range D,not E. what happened to your stock super duty tires/wheels? it didnt come w/16.5's,did it? regarding Ground Hawgs, arent they directional and mostly in a Bias-ply? I made the mistake years ago on an old International of going with bias-ply,directional,traction tread type tires, and yeah they were fantastic off the pavement. On the pavement,at 45 mph or faster,i could barely hear the stereo, luckily they wore out so fast that i didnt have to worry about it more than 15-18 thousand miles! Can i assume that an 04 Super-duty is probably a daily driver, and not a dedicated wheeler!

These are what it had when I got it, I have no idea why the person who had it before me put on 16.5's, it is just too hard to find a good A/T tire in that size. I may just get new wheels, they are cheaper than the tires anyway. Yes, it is a daily driver, that's why I am leaning toward an all terrain tire, something good on the pavement and snow, and good for hauling. I was thinking of getting new wheels and tires for the street and putting some swampers on my 16.5 rims for serious wheeling, then change them out before I go.

that sounds like the best compromise, toss a set of aggressive traction treads on 16.5's( maybe get something used, since a lot of people are going away from 16.5's) and then find some take-offs from one of the countless super-duties thats been lifted..... i would bet that if you take your time and shop carefully, you will end up with both tires and tires/wheels for not much more than what you might get just tires for.... thanks to Craigslist, and a wee bit of luck ive managed to find some screamin deals and some lucrative trades!
