Unhappy New owner needs help

I recently bought an 01 f250 4x4 with the 7.3 and 150k. It was not perfect but for the price I though it was worth my problem is that the ac clutch has gone bad and is screeching and started to smoke it's now parked and I can't even start it with out sounding likes it going to explode.

Question: can I remove the ac clutch and run the engine with out it. I would remove the shims and place the 8mm back. Is that a possible?

Thank you
Diego

Welcome to FTE, stand by I am sure someone will be along that can answer your questions.

Have you looked at the front of the motor under the hood for a diagram for the belt? Sometimes there is a diagram showing with AC and without.

Perhaps it is possible to buy a new belt using the alternate routing thereby deleting the AC out of the picture.

That is exactly what I did on my 92 Taurus.

did you look at the belt diagram on the hood? A smaller belt may work.

My son and I replaces his AC clutch on his 2001 V10,little bit of finagling, a mirror and a 1/4 socket set and we did it, couple hours and under $100.00 from Advanced auto(we went with the cheap stuff) works great. Maybe you should check it out it might not be such a bad job.

Did not have the time to look into that but probably would have worked
