I already posted this a week ago in the cooling/ac/heater forum but only had one response so I thought I would give it a shot here.
I have a 1985 F150 H.O. 351 with AC. I don't use the AC and don't plan to in the future. Shortly after purchasing the truck I disconnected the AC from the defroster (pulled the plug out of the alternator). The defroster has worked well since then so I am not concerned about that.
Question is: If I take off the AC belt will it cause me some other problems? Is the AC belt assisting anything else?
Based on prior experience with other vehicles, I am expecting an increase in idle.......but anything else I should be aware of?

If it is anything like my 5.0L it will not bother you, it is on it's own belt so if the compressor locks up you dont lose alt/wp/ps etc. you should be able to ****** it off with no issue. I woudlnt expect a major difference in idle, with the clutch disengaged the compressor pulley just functions as an idler pully, there should be no real drag to speak of.
My advice is just unplug the compressor clutch connector so the clutch can't engage. The guy you sell the truck to may want the A/C even non-working. I and many others usually won't buy a "butchered" vehicle other than parts.
No, but its a first step. It's been a long time since I had a 302 but I thought on mine the A/C belt also passed over the water pump pully. I'm likely wrong.
